Business competition prize grows with radio advertising package

A competition for start-up entrepreneurs in Staffordshire Moorlands has received a prize boost thanks to a local radio station.

Biddulph based online station Churnet Sound Radio has pitched in to offer a year’s advertising for the competition winner worth £900.

This means the Dyer’s Den competition, which first took place in 2019, will reward a deserving business or entrepreneur, trading for three years or less, with a first prize worth over £7000 and a runner-up prize worth over £2000 in cash and business services.

The competition is the idea of Jed Eatough, director of Leek based LSGK Accountants Ltd. It is sponsored by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Staffordshire Moorlands Chamber of Commerce, Tinsdills Solicitors, The Capture Factory, Moorland Contract Group, Cathy Bower Photography, LSGK Accountants, Churnet Sound Radio and Mark Brammar Associates.

Eatough said: “I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the Dyer’s Den sponsors and supporters. Everyone involved understands the importance of helping new businesses to grow and thrive and the positive effect this has on our local economy in terms of jobs and prosperity.

“Dyers Den highlights the resilience of small businesses, especially after such a tough 18 months. And when we get to the judging process, we will be looking for innovative and original businesses and ways in which a business may have ‘pivoted’ to adapt to the new business landscape.”

Joe Pointon from Churnet Sound Radio added: “We are a start-up business ourselves, so we fully appreciate the hard work and risk involved in getting a business off the ground and growing it. It’s a pleasure to join prestigious sponsors panel and I am looking forward to airing the winner’s advertisement later in the year.”

As well as the radio advertising package the prizes are made up of cash, financial and legal advice packages, membership of the Chamber of Commerce, photography, a website, and mentoring for the winner. And cash, photography, a website review and mentoring for the runner-up.

The competition closes on 31st August  and full details on the entry process, prizes and terms can be found at: www.dyersdencompetition.co.uk
